Nishant (Nishu) Uppal has held multiple leadership roles in both the local and national medical community. He currently works as a healthcare impact consultant at BrightEdge, the innovation and venture arm of the American Cancer Society, where he leads efforts to improve patient-centered investing in oncology. In the past, he served on the Board of Trustees and other leadership roles within the Massachusetts Medical Society, where he developed organizational healthcare policy positions. He has served as a strategic advisor for multiple healthcare technology and device startup organizations.
As a healthcare policy researcher, he obtained funding and served as a co-investigator on multiple projects while at Harvard Medical School, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. He has published many research publications including in top journals, such as NEJM, JAMA, and Health Affairs. These research efforts have led to multiple features and contributions in press outlets, testimony in a statewide hearing, and meetings with Congressional staff to advance federal legislation on healthcare reform.
He holds an MD from Harvard Medical School, where he graduated with honors and was named a Presidential Scholar. He holds an MBA from Harvard Business School, where he received the Hospital Corporation of America Fellowship and Social Enterprise Fellowship. He also holds a BS in biomedical engineering with highest honors from Case Western Reserve University.
